Hello everyone,
There will be both a Logistics committee meeting and an Outreach committee meeting this Wednesday, March 17 at the Ann Arbor Community Center. The meetings will follow one right after the other, so please come to one or both, or parts of each. The work of both of these committees is essential for making the Social Forum accessible to all. You can make this your first ever Social Forum meeting...or your 2nd or 5th. All are welcome.
Here are the details...
Logistics Meeting: 5:30pm to 7:00pm, Wednesday March 17
Outreach Meeting: 7:00pm to 8:30pm, Wednesday March 17
Location:
Ann Arbor Community Center, lower level
625 N Main St
Ann Arbor, MI 48104-1095
Logistics? What do you mean?
Logistics for work in Washtenaw County involves working through the details of making the Social Forum accessible to all. There are significant barriers that can stand in the way of people participating in the Social Forum, including transportation, accessibility (for people with [dis]abilities), food, and childcare, to name a few. If you have energy, ideas and/or resources that could go towards any of these areas, please join us at the meeting.
Outreach? What's that?
Outreach involves getting out the word about the US Social Forum and . This can mean having conversations with individuals, holding a meeting with a community organization, making a presentation, sending an email, making phone calls, etc. Among the greatest challenges is how community groups can take a lead role in doing outreach in their areas. We need your help with all of this.

Upcoming Meeting
Are you excited about the USSF and want to share that excitement with those you know?
Have you been involved in planning for the USSF,
but still feel that you do not have a grasp on what it's about?
Did you attend a USSF meeting months ago and want to get involved again?
If so, this message is for you. We're reaching out to DLOC members new and old, those who've been coming to meetings for a while, and to those who may have checked out and not attended in a while. Now I'm asking that you take this opportunity to check back in.
The Outreach Committee is hosting an:
Outreach Training and Action Event
Mon, March 8th at 5:30pm
USSF Offices, 4th floor
Central United Methodist Church, 23 E. Adams, Detroit
At this event we will be training and educating individuals on what the USSF is all about. The training will include how to talk about the USSF in a way that connects with people, and we'll provide talking points and other tools you'll need to mobilize others to the USSF. We will also be phonebanking that night, so that you can put the skills you learned to the test. We plan to use our cell phones for this phone banking, so if you are able, please bring yours. If you do not have a cell phone we will have some phones available for use.
We look forward to seeing you!
In solidarity,
USSF Outreach Committee

The one-hour phone sessions will be an opportunity for anyone to ask questions and hear about the goals and history of the Social Forum, details about what will be happening in Detroit this summer, logistics on how to get involved, and how to use the Forum as an opportunity for local and regional movement-building.
Registration is already open. Workshop and Cultural submissions can be made until March 20th. For more information, check the website at www.ussf2010.org
The Forum builds off the decade old process of the World Social Forum. With the intentional work of being by grassroots, low-income, people of color, young people, and LGBTQI communities, the forum is built by the grassroots for the grassroots to ensure that those affected by issues are at the center of movement responses and actions. It is a movement-building process that opens space for convergence, strategy exchange, and expanding our visions under the banner Another World is Possible. Another US is Necessary.
